17 states and the District of Columbia allow use of marijuana for medical purposes:
- Connecticut, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, as well as Washington, D.C.,

USA Mobile Drug Testing advises the following for insertion into the drug free workplace policy of any company in any state that does not have a medical marijuana law allowing use of marijuana for medical conditions.
“The company prohibits employees from reporting for work with an illegal drug, including marijuana (medical or otherwise), in his or her system. The company enforces this policy consistently with respect to all drugs, including medical marijuana, as the law allows the company to do.”
