Maybe you heard stories about drinking lots of water, exercising, adding chemicals to the sample, or trying to “detox” yourself to cheat a drug test. Drug testing, fortunately, has advanced quite a bit and none of those techniques will help someone beat a test.
Here are a few myths that persist, but rest assured, none of them will in any way help someone to cheat a drug test.
Hey! I’ll just drink lots of water to dilute the THC!
You can actually dilute the THC showing up in your system from marijuana use, but the problem is this also dilutes your levels of creatinine. Creatinine is a by product of food being metabolized, and it’s normally found in your urine. Modern drug tests will be able to tell if your creatinine levels are too low and you’ll just get called in for more tests.
I’ll just add chemicals to “clean” my urine!
This “clever idea” involves adding bleach, drano, visine, ammonia, or vinegar to urine. The “cleaner” can be poured into the sample, or in the case of the vinegar, ingested. Again, modern tests account for this kind of tampering and you’ll get called in for more tests. If you try drinking enough vinegar to affect your eventual sample, you’ll end up with the added “pleasure” of violent diarrhea.
I’ll buy a kit and “detox” my system fast!
Specific to trying to fool a drug test, this usually means using coffee, tea, or cranberry juice to try and flush the drug remains out of your system. You can do this, but just like with the water plan, the drug test will know because you’ll be missing key nutrients. People advertising “natural” kits are trying to make money. Of course they’ll tell you it works, and it may do that over a long period of time, but that’s because you’ve changed your nutrition through the detox. Any quick fix will show up in testing.

Exercise is also thought to help metabolize THC stored in fat cells. Like changing your diet, this will work, but just like trying to lose weight, fat loss takes months and you have no control of “which” fat you’re losing.
