Heroin is a highly addictive and illegal drug that has ruined countless lives all over the world. Not only is the drug extremely addictive, but it is also leads the user to engage in risky behavior that they otherwise not partake in. With that being said, here are five potentially deadly heroin side effects.
Heart problem: When taking heroin, in any form, one will do damage to their heart and valves. In fact, when one ingests it too rapidly, a user can experience a serious episode as the heart slows down. The only way to combat this is to take a quick injection of adrenaline. Either way, when taking heroin in any amount, one will put their heart at an increased risk for damage. Other times, a small overdose will lead to a fast death as a user’s system will become overwhelmed, and he or she will succumb.
Nausea and throwing up: Now, usually, when vomiting, a person will have an annoying and gross problem on his or her hands. Of course, when under the influence of heroin, throwing up can cause death as many end up choking on their own vomit. While some people can avoid problems by doing heroin in a group, it is still not wise to touch this drug as one cannot rely on other users under the influence. Remember, a lot of people end up vomiting while taking heroin and up dead.
Aids: When sharing needles with other drug users, one will have an increased chance of getting sick from AIDS. This is a serious and overlooked problem as it can creep up on a person and cause them to suffer in the long-term. While some opt to use clean needles or avoid certain people, it is best to avoid heroin as one will make bad choices while on the drug. Without a doubt, this will, in due time, cause serious health issues and may cost a person his or her life. At the least, one will not live a happy life while carrying this serious illness.
Suicide: An addict will experience higher highs and lower lows. This is a serious problem in the long-term as a person who becomes depressed is more likely to suffer from serious psychiatric problems. While this is often overlooked, it is a serious problem as many drug addicts often commit suicide instead of getting help.
Strokes: As a person does heroin for a long time, they will see their blood vessels in the brain weaken. Over time, this can cause a deadly stroke. Since this usually takes a while to occur, most people do not think of the consequences. This is a serious error as a stroke, even when not deadly, is still a serious medical emergency one should try to avoid at all costs.
Heroin has plenty of bad side effects. In some cases, one can deal with them and live a seemingly normal life. Other times, in due time, an addict will die from his or her addiction.
