Oshmyansky, a radiologist, who founded Osh Affordable Pharmaceuticals had seen firsthand what happens when patients couldn’t afford their medications—it wasn’t good. The astronomical cost of prescription drugs causes many people—especially the elderly—to forego their medications completely. They suffer the consequences, of course, but if there isn’t enough money in the account to cover all the expenses, there isn’t enough money.
Osh Affordable Pharmaceuticals is a nonprofit that helps people who can’t afford their prescription drugs. Currently, the company isn’t taking any new patients due to the extreme demand which speaks to the company’s success.
Forging a new path
Oshmyansky’s spontaneous pitch impressed Cuban. He chose to back him in his endeavor, made Alex the CEO of the company, and changed the company’s name. Like its pilot company, the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is experiencing huge success. Again, proving the point that people will, indeed, keep taking their prescription medications when they can afford them.
Cuban expressed why he decided to get involved in a statement we found on Cost Plus Drug’s landing page. He said, “Everyone should have safe, affordable medicines with transparent prices.” And, the people are agreeing with him in droves!
We’ve driven home the need for affordable medicines, but we want to stress the fact that Cuban stipulated “safe” medicines too. In today’s world, when many online businesses spring up seemingly overnight, it’s easy to wind up giving your money to someone who is not who or what they claim to be.
