Statistics for illicit drug use, according to the Department of Labor, are staggering: 9.1% of full time employees and 13.7% of part-time employees use drugs before or during work, or come to work impaired. Self-reporting drug users, according to National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) indicate that they:
- Worked for 3 or more employers in the past year
- Voluntarily left an employer in the past year
- Were fired by an employer in the past year
- Took an unexcused absence in the past month
- Requested early dismissal or time off
- Had absences of 8 days or longer and significantly increased tardiness
A comprehensive Drug Free Workplace Program includes five components:
- A drug-free workplace policy
- Supervisor training
- Employee education
- Employee assistance
- Drug testing
While some employers may choose not to include all five components, USAMDT recommends that all be explored when developing a program. Because every business is unique, there is no single way to write a program. USA Mobile Drug Testing of Northeast Ohio will customize a program for your company to make sure every base is covered.
