If you happened to be a client, you may know that Nationwide Testing Association (NTA) has permanently closed its doors. Since the company’s closing on March 21, 2025, Trevor Clark, former NTA president, has already accepted the position of National Business Development Manager with what can only be described as a past rival in the industry. That’s all well and good for Clark, but what happens to their customers? Those who aren’t made aware of the company’s sudden closure could find themselves left in the lurch when it comes time to drug test an employee or applicant.
We don’t intend to toot our own horn, but we feel it’s important to get this word out. We don’t want anyone getting left holding the—empty—bag when it’s time to random test a group of safety-sensitive employees. It could cause the company to fall out of compliance. Or what about the hopeful job applicant in either workforce that has to be tested in order to start work after a long lay off?

Testing methods
We have all three employee drug testing methods available.
They are:
- Urine drug screening
- Mouth swab, otherwise known as oral fluid testing
- Hair follicle testing
We mentioned that we stayed abreast of changes within the DOT drug testing procedures. Currently, both the oral fluid and hair tests are in the spotlight. The oral fluid tests were approved for use; however, before safety-sensitive employers can switch to this method, there must be two SAMHSA-approved laboratories ready to analyze specimens. Currently, the count stands at zero. We’ll let you know as soon as that changes, though.
The hair test may soon be approved as well. The Department of Health and Human Services is publishing the proposed guidelines in May 2025. Those involved in the safety-sensitive industry are encouraged to get involved with the final ruling outcome and voice their opinions on the matter during the open comment phase of the process.
