So you’re realizing your dream of starting your own trucking company and it won’t be much longer before the Grand Opening date arrives. You’ve been going through resumes and scheduling interviews interspersed with checking off the “yep, I meet compliance there” list. Suddenly, you realize that you put the Department of Transportation (DOT) employee drug testing program on the back burner and it’s still sitting there. Eeesh. You could grab your phone and search “DOT drug testing near me,” but have you thought about having a mobile drug testing company head your way instead?
If you’re scheduling interviews to line-up your drivers, it would save valuable time to schedule a drug testing day as well. All your potential drivers could show up on-site and you could knock out the pre-employment drug testing in one fell swoop. USA Mobile Drug Testing (USAMDT) offers its customers the ability to do just that and we’re completely capable of handling your entire drug testing program if you so desire.
From start to finish
Even though the DOT has strict rules and regulations for employers of the safety-sensitive workforce to follow to remain in compliance, the department allows employers some wiggle room for decision-making. Our staff is knowledgeable on all things related to DOT drug testing and can customize your policies and procedures to best suit your business. For instance, in May 2023, the DOT released its final ruling and approved the oral fluid drug test as an appropriate drug testing method. Employers can’t use anything but the urine test just yet though.
That’s because, at the moment, there haven’t been any laboratories certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Safety Administration (SAMHSA) to handle DOT oral fluid drug testing. Now that the ruling is officially out, though, experts within the industry are speculating a target date of the end of this year or early 2024 at the latest. If you are launching your business sooner than that, we can help you include an interim clause within your drug testing protocol that allows making the switch in the near future.
After you’ve got your policies and procedures in place, you’re ready to start the hiring process—and we mentioned that using us could work to your advantage here as well. Even if you don’t have us roll up on sight, you can be certain that we have an on-site drug testing facility available where drivers can report for the test. USAMDT has thousands of available sites nationwide.
All test specimens are sent to a SAMHSA-certified laboratory for processing and we have DOT-certified Medical Review Officers (MROs) available to carry out the process of reporting results back to your company and contacting any drivers who may have failed the test to discover whether or not there were any extenuating circumstances.

Understanding the seriousness of our task
The DOT has made it its mission to oversee the commercial transport industry—whether it be goods and services or citizens of this great land—in order to keep everyone safe when traveling. One way to do that is by ensuring that drivers and operators are drug-free.
We have shouldered the responsibility of staying abreast of all DOT rules and regulations so that employers have one less thing to worry about. Staying in compliance is important! Failing to do so can cost your company dearly in the form of penalties and fines. With USAMDT in charge, employee drug testing can stay checked off your list of things to look over on the regular.
If you’re starting a new business and have questions about the DOT drug testing program or if you are well-established in the trade but looking for a third party to take over your drug testing program, reach out. Our knowledgeable staff can answer any questions and will happily advise you on how we can help you reach your goal.
