Marijuana Drug Test

Atlanta employers who want to eliminate employee drug use and the negative impact it causes in the workplace most have several options, including urinalysis, mouth swab, and hair follicle testing.

Since marijuana is one of the most commonly abused drugs, it’s also one of the most frequently tested for. Fortunately, regardless of the method used, the testing process is fast and simple.

Marijuana Drug Test Methods

The marijuana drug testing process varies depending on the testing method used, but all testing methods can be conducted 24/7 on site or at the location of your choice.

Urinalysis

The employee being tested will be required to leave all personal belongings, such as briefcase, purse, pocket items, etc., in a secured area. They will then be given a specimen cup and will enter a private, secured bathroom to fill the cup with urine. Depending on the circumstances of the drug test, a USAMDT test administrator may be required to accompany the employee into the restroom to supervise the collection.

After collection, USAMDT will deliver the urine sample to our lab where immunoassay and gas chromatography or mass spectrometry testing will be conducted to screen for marijuana use. The Medical Review Officer (MRO) and employer will be notified of the results electronically.

Urinalysis drug screening is the most common and least expensive way to screen for drug use, and the only downside is that it requires secure, private restroom facilities. It’s also currently the only approved method for DOT drug testing.

Saliva/Oral Fluid

A USAMDT test administrator can conduct this type of drug test anywhere with no need for a private bathroom. They will collect a saliva sample from the inner cheek with a sterile Q-tip and secure it into a plastic sample vial for testing.

USAMDT will then deliver the saliva sample to our lab where immunoassay and gas chromatography or mass spectrometry testing will be conducted to screen for marijuana use. The Medical Review Officer (MRO) and employer will be notified of the results electronically.

Saliva drug screening is convenient, difficult to cheat, and unlike other testing methods, can detect marijuana use as recent as 8 hours. The one drawback is that it can only detect marijuana use for up to 48 hours.

Hair Follicle

This method of drug testing can also be conducted anywhere. The USAMDT test administrator will clip about 1.5″ of an employee’s hair and secure it into a plastic sample bag for testing.

USAMDT will then deliver the hair sample to our lab where immunoassay and gas chromatography or mass spectrometry testing will be conducted to screen for marijuana use. The Medical Review Officer (MRO) and employer will be notified of the results electronically.

Hair follicle drug screening is simple and nearly impossible to cheat since the hair sample is collected in plain view at the time of the test. Unfortunately, it takes longer to receive the results compared to other methods, and you can’t identify recent drug use. (Within the last 5-10 days.)
